ABOUT ME
Stephan Hennig International Maritime Services was established in 2026.
For over two decades, I worked in the UK maritime authority, including nine years as the Secretary of State's Representative for Maritime Salvage and Intervention (SOSREP).
SHIMS supports shipping and offshore industries in emergency planning, preparedness and response, and provides strategic advice during maritime emergencies.
Principal consultant
I founded SHIMS to apply and share the experience I gained in more than two decades working in the maritime sector and to enhance my own knowledge.
Experienced practitioner
During my time working for the UK maritime authority, I was involved in the response to hundreds of marine incidents around the UK. From 2018 to 2026, I had oversight of all serious marine casualties involving salvage and wreck removal. I have worked with UK local and central Government Departments, ports and harbours, national and international industry associations, international and supranational bodies, and many of the commercial companies that make up the maritime industry ecosystem.
Sharing knowledge
I can support clients in emergency preparedness and response training and can provide strategic and practical advice during critical moments when sound decision making is required to prevent a drama turning into a catastrophe.

Training / workshops / plans
I can support existing training schedules and personnel to integrate with your own programme. Alternatively, I can design and deliver sessions to suit your requirements.
I have reviewed and contributed to port and offshore oil pollution response emergency plans as well as national response plans. I can support your plan review to ensure compliance and suitability.
Strategic advice
On account of my past experience, I can provide a perspective which few others have.
I can integrate with your strategic or operational management teams and help you communicate your response plans to your stakeholders during times of uncertainty in a maritime crisis.
